Gizella
the Blessed Needlework Group
The Gizella the Blessed Needlework Group counts 68 members. It joined
the Circle in September 2000, and with its activities brought some more
colour into the organization, which had only had a mainly male
membership before. It is impossible today not to have the group’s
exhibitions and promotions at the Vincent’s Day wine contest and the
more spectacular pumpkin contest. The group is an active participant at
every event. Additionally, they take part at tea parties, organize joint
exhibitions at home and all around Voivodina, and they play hostess at
our joint events. Their embroideries cover the altar of the Church of St
Rosalia.
They have sewn the banner of the church and the flag of the
Circle. They regularly frequent the MIRK-festival. In 2004 they won the
first prize having competed with 72 needlework groups. They are also
invited to abroad, they go to the Hungarians’ House Cultural Centre in
Budapest every year as invited guests. Apart from this, they educate the
youth, organize balls and outings, and collect clothes for the needy.
The group has been collecting and categorizing the traditional realia of
our grandmothers for several years now.
They do everything to find their
place not only as housewives, but as leading arteries in the life of our
community as well. The big family of the Circle would not be complete
without them.
